Pong Concept Art

Process

When I first began designing the concept art for pong I started with the replacement for the ball, the donut. I used shading and highlights to make the frosting and sprinkles pop and make the donut appear almost 3d. I chose to do this because I had already decided that the background would be very light pastel colors so I wanted one of the important aspects of the game to pop out against it.

For the chocolate bar slider I used the same 3d highlighting and shading strategy to give it that extra pop so it would stand out against the background. For its animation I gave it a sparkle effect to add to the aesthetic.

To add something extra to my pong game I also designed scoreboard diplays since there is so much going on in the background I figure making scoreboards with the 3d highlighting and shading would make the scores easier to view against the background. The pink I used is the same as the donut so that it doesnt distract away too much from the games central color pallette.

For the background I used shapes with very soft edges to give an impression of lace. For the color pallette of the background I also copied the light colors I usedfrom the sprinkles in the donut to keep the colors from straying too far from the focal point and tie them nicely together.
